Kochikame is the longest running manga series, which continued for 40 years. The manga series was discontinued some years ago, but its popularity has made it a cult manga series. It follows the misadventures of Ryo-san, a middle aged cop who does everything he can to fight crime and bring justice to his citizens. The name is a pun on Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen Mae Hashutsujo (This is the police box in front of Kameari Park in Katsushika Ward). The title also references the name of the author, Osamu Akimoto. Kochikame has a total of 1184 chapters that were collected over 40 years, and the series is still ongoing as of December 2013. It was first released in July 1976, in Weekly Shōnen Jump, and has since been compiled into 42 volumes.
